Manutan has announced a partnership with the carrier MAZET to accelerate the reduction of its scope 3 carbon emissions

18 March 2024

As part of its decarbonisation strategy and in a continuous improvement approach, Manutan, a specialist in B2B distribution of equipment and supplies, is entrusting nearly 25% of its pallet shipments from its Gonesse site to the carrier MAZET with the aim of reducing its CO2 emissions by 7% between 2021 and the end of 2024. Through this partnership, Manutan continues to favour more virtuous modes of transportation to deliver its customers, aiming to reduce its scope 3 CO2 emissions (indirect emissions).

MAZET is a French family-owned carrier with a fleet that runs on 50% Colza, a 100% French and vegetable energy, thus supporting French agriculture. The carrier aims to have a fleet composed of 80% Colza-powered vehicles by 2025.

This initiative was launched a year ago following a transport tender. The partnership has borne fruit thanks to strong involvement over several months from the various logistics and IT services of Manutan as well as the teams at Mazet. This enables the company to make a significant contribution to the objectives of the 2019 European Climate Law and the carbon neutrality target by 2050. Since January 2023, in France, companies are required to include scope 3 in their greenhouse gas emissions inventory (BEGES). This is of major importance for companies, both in environmental and strategic terms, as they strive to manage and reduce emissions related to the purchase of products and services, waste management, and goods transportation.

"We share with the Mazet Group the same values of commitment to the environment, workplace safety, and operational quality. Their project for the overall renewal of their fleet, with a goal of transitioning to clean energy from French agriculture, is fully aligned with our objectives to reduce our transport emissions by 7% by 2024, as part of our membership in FRET 21," emphasizes Gabriel Tellier, Transport Director of the Manutan group.

"Opting for sustainable logistics is not only an ecological choice; it is a strategic decision that combines environmental respect and economic efficiency. At MAZET, we are committed to being actors of this change, not only to address current challenges but to anticipate those of tomorrow," highlights Pierre-Louis MAZET, CEO and member of the board.

This partnership covers 11 departments in France (Nord, Pas-de-Calais, Ille-et-Vilaine, Loire Atlantique, Gironde, Haute-Garonne, Bas-Rhin, Rhône, Vaucluse, Bouches-du-Rhône, and Alpes-Maritimes) and aims at transporting bulky parcels and pallets.
