Pichon gives games and toys a second life

4 July 2025

As part of the Manutan Group’s commitment to a more responsible model, we are accelerating the circular transition of our ecosystem by offering a range of refurbished products aimed at our customers, businesses and public authorities. Pichon, the leading supplier of school materials, has chosen to focus its efforts on an iconic category: games and toys. For the past year, this French subsidiary has been offering a selection of second-hand products that combine quality, savings, and a long-term commitment to sustainability.

A necessary shift for a market in flux

Each year, 150,000 tonnes of new toys are placed on the market... and 100,000 tonnes are thrown away*. This highlights the urgent need to rethink the way we consume and to maximise the lifespan of these products, especially since the vast majority of toys can still serve their educational and play-based purpose.

At the same time, the anti-waste law for a circular economy (AGEC) requires public authorities to dedicate an increasing share of their purchases to reused products. For the games and toys category, this must represent 5% of their purchases, rising to 10% in 2027 and 15% in 2030.

In response to these challenges, our refurbished product range offers a practical and accessible solution for all.

The strengths of our refurbished products

  • A sustainable commitment
Extending the lifespan of products helps reduce waste and carbon emissions. It’s an effective way to promote more responsible consumption.

  • Guaranteed quality
All our products undergo strict quality control to ensure they are fully functional and in excellent condition. Each item meets the highest standards and comes with a six-month guarantee.

  • Smart savings
Our second-life products are, on average, 40% cheaper than new ones, an ideal solution for budget-conscious organisations.

  • A social mission
The products are refurbished by people undergoing vocational reintegration, offering them valuable training and employment opportunities.

  • A carefully managed and evolving range
To deliver this second-hand offer, Pichon works with a trusted partner. Each product is carefully inspected, cleaned, and restored (where necessary) in specialist workshops based in France.

To date, our catalogue features over 250 items across several categories: board and construction games, puzzles, early learning toys… Each reference is available in sufficient quantities to meet the needs of schools and public bodies. We are continuously expanding this range, based on available collections and strict criteria around safety, usage, and durability.
