Manutan expands its pallet repair workshop
As European leader in B2B e-commerce, Manutan is committed to contributing to a better planet. One of the Group’s key priorities is to adopt lower-impact solutions for transporting and packaging products. Among the many initiatives supporting this ambition is our pallet repair workshop at the European Distribution Centre. Recently redesigned and upgraded, the workshop is a strong example of our commitment to the circular economy, employee wellbeing and operational excellence.
Extending the life of pallets through reuse
Nearly five years ago, Manutan’s Logistics team launched an in-house pallet repair operation with a clear objective: to extend the lifespan of pallets while reducing waste.
To support this activity, we created a dedicated full-time role, bringing the operation in-house as part of our long-term commitment to developing both our capabilities and our expertise.
Today, more than 10,000 pallets are fully refurbished each year, while others are repurposed into bespoke formats to meet specific operational requirements. These pallets are then reintegrated into our logistics operations, helping us make more responsible use of resources.
A modernised and more efficient operation
The workshop has recently undergone a significant transformation. Philippe Théry, Activity Manager, together with the Maintenance team, completely redesigned the workspace, workstation layout and working methods to improve both efficiency and employee experience.
Key improvements include:
- A dedicated, well-organised workspace designed to optimise operational flow.
- An ergonomic workstation that enhances comfort and safety.
- Modern equipment, including electric nail guns, to reduce physical strain.
These enhancements have created a safer, more efficient working environment while making day-to-day tasks less physically demanding for the employee responsible for the operation.
The result of a collaborative effort, this project has improved both employee satisfaction and operational efficiency, while further reducing our environmental impact. It is another practical example of our ambition to make a positive difference by enterprising for a better World.
